Pierce The Veil: I CAN’T HEAR YOU over the 7,000 Fans at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre
A sold-out Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre witnessed alternative legends as Pierce the Veil’s I CAN’T HEAR YOU tour stopped at Sterling Heights, Michigan. The bill, a nostalgic yet refreshingly current lineup for many, featured the semi-recently reunited Beach Weather and the ever-energetic Sleeping with Sirens. For fans, this tour was a long-awaited affair, a chance to reconnect with bands that have provided the soundtrack to countless moments of their lives. Beach Weather, having recently returned from a hiatus with new music on the way, brought a fresh energy to the stage. Sleeping with Sirens, fronted by Kellin Quinn, who has been keeping busy with his solo project Haunted Mouths, arrived with their signature explosive performance. Headliners Pierce the Veil, after about a year away, returned to a Michigan stage only to show they didn't miss a beat.
Beach Weather opened up for them this time around (who joined the tour on May 28th, so they were only two shows in by this stop) but that did not matter. They did their job, and did it well! With a nice eight-song set, they played a some old and some new. Opening with "Chit Chat" and closing with "Sex, Drugs, Ect.," both from their 2016 EP Chit Chat. After a five-year hiatus, the band’s return felt less like a reunion and more like a seamless continuation. Their chemistry on stage was palpable, a clear indication that their time apart has only strengthened their musical bond. Their newer material blended effortlessly with the fan favorites, creating a set that was both a nod to the past and a glimpse into their promising future.
As time passed and the lights dimmed, Sleeping with Sirens took the stage, opening with "Kick Me," an amped up song that set the tone for the rest of the evening. The band was a whirlwind of motion and sound, a testament to their years of honing their craft on stages worldwide. Kellin Quinn was a magnetic force, a blur of perpetual motion as he commanded the stage, jumping and powerfully swinging his microphone, his voice soaring over the intricate instrumentals. The set was a well-oiled machine of hits, each song igniting a new wave of energy from the captivated audience. From the anthemic choruses to the blistering breakdowns, Sleeping with Sirens delivered a performance that was both technically precise and wildly entertaining. It was clear the band was in their element, feeding off the crowd's adoration and having an absolute blast doing it.
Pierce the Veil's hour and a half long set left us still wanting more. The time flew as we went back to 2007 for their debut album A Flair For The Dramatic playing “I'd Rather Die Than be Famous,” a now ironic song title as their sold out show of over 7,000 fans of all ages screamed for more from beginning to end. Energy was high as bassist Jamie Preciado ran up and down the stage, throwing his bass while showcasing the thrill and passion for performing, even after over 15 years with the band. These guys are the definition for professionals, and everything you'd want from a performance: killer vocals, incredible energy, and cohesion from beginning to end. Vocalist Vic Fuentes effortlessly brought the crowd through classics like “Bulls in the Bronx” and “Hell Above,” and most notably, “King For a Day” which included a vocal feature from Kellin Quin of Sleeping With Sirens. Fans dressed in white button-ups, suit jackets and black ties inspired by the iconic 2012 video. The final three-song encore had fans hanging onto every moment as the band kept up the energy for a stellar closeout.
