The Fillmore | Detroit, Michigan | June 17
Dance Gavin Dance seems to be in Detroit so much they nearly feel like a local band - almost exactly one year later, the influential post-hardcore band was back at the Fillmore. Opening the tour was French band Novelists, an artist not to be missed, setting the high-energy tone for the show. Between the beautiful dress and amazing voice, Camille had the crowd's full attention.
Wolf & Bear came out to the stage next, keeping the energy high, which seemed to be an easy task for them. This was my first Wolf & Bear experience and I will say I'll be looking out for their next stop here in Detroit. From sounding great to the high energy, they gained plenty more fans that night.
Horse the Band needs no introduction. Being a band for almost 30 years is a testimony to their resilience and love for the art. Their triangle player had an unmatched amount of energy out there from climbing the barrier to the split kicks on stage.
To say the crowd was warmed up for Dance Gavin Dance would be an understatement. The crowd was already cheering and screaming minutes before they got on stage, and when they did finally appear there was an eruption in the crowd at the first note of “Animal Surgery." DGD crowds seem to be one of the best places to be at that time - the amount of singing and dancing happening can't really be compared to many other shows. They really are there because they love everything about it. You can see why in the bands performance - they're very active, have a lot of crowd interaction and appreciation, and they very clearly love the fans just as much. Dance Gavin Dance closed the night out with " Inspire the Liars” and bringing out Camille from Novelists.
